A Big Thank You!
Thanks to everyone for all the support you have given the Grenfell Club and its fundraising events over the years. The Club solely survives on donations and fundraising and receives no financial assistance from the local or national government to help run this valuable service. In the current economic climate funding is becoming harder to source.
If you have any ideas or would like to join our fundraising committee, please contact the office.
Please help us in the continuing fight to sustain funding for your Grenfell Club.
2011 Middlesbrough 10k Run
On Sunday 4th September Sam Jones worker at the Grenfell and Lauren Somerville ran the 10k ran on behalf of the Grenfell Club. Lauren has a sister Lois with complex needs who has attended the club since she was six. Lauren now a Police Officer was once a volunteer herself at the Grenfell club.
Lauren said, ” This is an excellent cause for a brilliant Club that deserves support. The club is funded solely by donations and grants and it’s such a wonderful place that people with learning and physical disabilities love going to. It needs as much support as it can get because there is nothing else like it in the area. So please help us!”
PC to run Middlesbrough 10k in honour of sister

A POLICEWOMAN is to pound the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10K beat in honour of the sister she’s devoted to.
PC Lauren Somerville is taking part in the road race on September 4 in aid of Redcar’s Grenfell Club for children and adults with learning disabilities.
For years, “The Grenfell” has been a home from home for Lauren’s sister Lois, 21, who has complex needs and loves the Ridley Street club.
Lauren too knows all about The Grenfell, having helped out there for several years. And now, she’s running the 10K alongside Grenfell worker Sam Jones.
Lauren, 25, a former student of Redcar’s Sacred Heart School and Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough, says she’s always been close to her little sister.
A chromosome abnormality unique to Lois left her with severe learning and physical difficulties. But the girls, who were brought up in Redcar by their mum Samantha Bain, have always had a great relationship. Lauren said: “Mum brought us up on her own and I just had to muck in. You do, don’t you? “We just have a normal sisterly relationship - it’s brilliant.”
For the past two years, Lois has been at Beaumont residential college in Lancaster and she’s hoping to return for a third year.
Since the age of six, she has attended the Grenfell Club, which is funded solely by donations and grants.
Lauren added: “It’s an amazing place.”
