About The Grenfell Club

50 years ago, a group of parents and carers of children with physical and learning disabilities recognised there was no provision for their children to socialize, learn and have fun. These parents raised funds, secured their own premises, and started providing activities for their loved ones. Over the years our centre and membership has grown, we now provide our service five days and five evenings per week to people with varying degrees of learning and physical disabilities.

The Grenfell Club is member led; we encourage our members to take ownership of their activities and community centre. We run evening and day sessions Monday to Friday, plus a health and well-being session on a Saturday. Members are responsible for the reception area, running our coffee bar and working in our allotment. In a warm caring environment children, young people and adults with learning disabilities come to us to meet with their friends, learn new skills and develop in confidence.

What is a learning disability?

A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things, for example household tasks, socialising or managing money – which affects them their whole lives. Other people might need more support with washing, dressing or eating. A learning disability is different for everyone. Lots of people who have a learning disability can work, have relationships, live alone, and get qualifications. Not every disability is visible, many people with learning disabilities look like everyone else, but have a disability, so they need more support in their everyday life.

Testimonials

from parents and carers

Amazing place and people. We thought Dean would last 2 to 3 weeks as he's shy. He's been going for the last 5 years. He loves it can't wait to go every week. Amanda Whitley (Parent)

My son Jordan loves going to the Grenfell Club, and I know he's in a safe, friendly environment. The staff are amazing, so caring and supportive. Even during Covid lockdown they went the extra mile, offering support to our families - with activity packs being dropped off, and twice weekly Zoom meetings, so Jordan could keep in touch with all his friends x Christine Ford (Parent)

Grenfell Club are so supportive to the carers and parents as well as the members keeping us informed of anything that is happening and anything that can help us. Very helpful staff that are well trained and involved with everyone working with their members. Name Witheld (Parent)

My daughter has been going to the Grenfell Club since 1995. She has enjoyed every minute, and she's had some days out which were great! She has made lots of friends over the years, and still goes twice a week. The staff are brilliant and very patient with all their members. Shirley (Parent)
